Acoustic Wave Therapy Update

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

The Acoustic Wave machine is proving really successful. We have now had two patients complete their course and both are delighted with the results. Several other patients are coming to the end of their treatment and again results are looking positive. The Machine is great for cellulite reduction, skin tightening and we have also noticed a difference in circumference reduction. We are now looking for models for stomach and also any brave men out there with ‘man boobs’.

Skin Peels

Friday, November 14th, 2008

There are so many skin peels on offer, it is difficult to choose which one may or may not be right for your individual skin type.  Peeling the skin is not a simple process, like peeling an onion and before embarking on this often quite invasive form of skin treatment, it is important to understand the basics of why we ‘peel the skin’ and what we hope to achieve.

Mild peels can be used to brighten skin as a quick fix.  Peels such as glycolic, lactic and mandelic peels can give a nice result for those patients just wanting a fresher brighter complexion and a course of these mild peels can give a nice cosmetic result.  Microdermabrasion can also be considered in this category, however I woud urge caution, as the latest research shows that one or two microdermabrasions can be great for the skin but a longer course of treatment may infact have negative results, particularly if skin type has not been assessed accurately.

Acne in a nutshell 1

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

We’ve had lots of Acne sufferers in again this month, so thought it was time we looked at a simplified description of the ‘whys’ and ‘wherefores’ of Acne.  Acne is incredibly complicated and the following is a quick guide only.  We have fantastic results with our Acne programmes and with time and commitment on the part of our patients and our practitioners, we get fantastic results.

Acne is a devastating disease affecting teenagers and adults alike.  Approximately 80% of teenagers have acne at some stage with around 20% developing scarring.  It is not so much the skin disease as the psychological effects, which can have a profound and long lasting effect on confidence and self esteem.

New Machines

Monday, October 6th, 2008

We’ve spent the weekend agonising over ‘What next’?  I’m tempted to start exploring body treatments, with an emphasis on Body Sculpturing and Cellulite, whereas Paul keeps nagging about tattoo removal and the fact that the market for this is also growing nicely.

Mesotherapy

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Loving our new mesotherapy machine!  A cocktail of Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamins are pushed into the skin using a Transderm machine (No needles necessary).

Invented initially for the Juventus Football Team, as an alternative to injections post sports injury, the machine pushes ingredients into the dermis, to the same level that previously only injections would reach.  For footballers, this means that injections such as Cortisone have become a thing of the past, as the machine now offers a pain free way of introducing the medicines into the skin.

Whats bad about…sugary snacks for skin

Monday, June 9th, 2008

So, we know some of the foods that are good for our skin…..but what about the bad guys;

Refined sugar and carb snacks may give you a quick buzz, but this burst of’ energy’ is not good for your system. Very simply explained it puts the blood sugar out of balance and your body sends out more insulin to cope with this. If this happens regularly it results in the decreased ability to remove excess blood glucose from the bloodstream.

Fruit and Veg for Skin

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

I’m often asked by patients if any ‘type of food or diet’ can help improve the general condition of skin. The answer to this one is a very definate ‘yes’ and so I’ve dug out a few articles written by Patrick Holford, one of the U.K’s top nutritionalists, to give you some basic facts on the realtionship between diet and skin health and some top tips to help improve and maintain ‘good skin’.

A good diet consistsisting of fresh, untreated foods is essential for the health of your entire body, not just your skin and reducing the speed at which it ages or degenerates in any way. Given the importance of keeping your digestive tract and liver in good working order for healthy skin, a diet should include foods naturally high in fibre, e.g. raw or lightly cooked veg and fruit, wholegrains, root vegetables, lentils and beans, well chewed and eaten when you are relaxed.
